    About Us

We Put People and the Planet First!

MCE’s top priorities are YOU — and the health of our planet. MCE is a not-for-profit public
agency that has set the standard for clean energy in San Rafael, Marin County, and California
since 2010. We offer renewable power options at stable rates, reduce energy-related
greenhouse gas emissions, and reinvest millions of dollars in community benefit programs here
    in our local area.

MCE established California’s first Community Choice Aggregator (CCA) in San Rafael after
state law was passed to make this new type of energy provider possible. As the trailblazer for
local clean energy, MCE was the first not-for-profit organization to offer electricity generation as
an alternative to PG&E. With our launch in 2010, energy users in San Rafael now have a choice
in electricity providers, along with the benefits of increased transparency and local reinvestment
of ratepayer dollars by a public agency.

MCE provides electricity generation options that are more renewable and often lower cost to
customers. We supply the electricity that was previously only available from PG&E and we do it
in a way that delivers local improvements for our community and the environment. PG&E
delivers the electricity through power lines that they own and continues to provide gas service.

With the help of local leadership, business champions, and individual advocates, MCE has
redefined the local energy landscape and created energy choice for electricity users. We want a
better future — for ourselves, for the people we love, and for all things living on this planet.
