Trips for Kids® Marin is a San Francisco Bay Area non-profit whose mission and goal is to provide transformative cycling experiences to underserved youth. Our programs build self-esteem, inspire healthy lifestyles and instill environmental values.
Since we began 28 years ago (1988), Trips for Kids® (TFK®) has taken underserved youth from the greater San Francisco Bay Area on daylong mountain bike rides in local State and Federal open spaces and parks. During these adventures, kids have fun while gaining confidence, riding skills, a greater appreciation for nature, and exposure to the healthful benefits of fitness. We challenge them physically, mentally and emotionally, and bring out their best. Our Trail Rides program has positively transformed the lives of more than 30,000 kids in the San Francisco Bay Area alone!
In addition, TFK has provided after-school Earn-a-Bike programs and Mobile Bike Workshops for underserved youth. While learning how to build and repair used, donated bikes, children master skills in mechanics (physics, math and design), patience, follow-through, and hard work, along with customer service and appropriate professional behavior.
The Re-Cyclery Bike Shop, located in San Rafael’s downtown business district, is a center for affordable transportation. It's a valuable part of our environmental education curriculum. By reusing and repurposing useful items, we keep them out of landfills and give our participants a model for environmental stewardship as well as hands-on training. Sales from the Shop cover approximately 50% of our programs.
Central San Rafael exit to 610 4th Street, on the east side of Hwy 101.
