            • Learn About Beekeeping and Honey Harvesting

Sept. 17, 2012) NOVATO, Calif. – Learn about the hobby of backyard beekeeping as well as harvesting honey in a two-part workshop presented by Homeward Bound of Marin and the Marin Bee Company at the Next Key Center in Novato.

The first session from 10 a.m. to noon offers an overview of the 12-month cycle of keeping bees, with all equipment on hand for guests to see and touch. This concludes with a visit to the Homeward Bound hives on-site at the Next Key Center at 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway.

The second session from 1 to 3 p.m. invites guests to try their hand at harvesting honey. After visiting the hives, Marin Bee Company experts will demonstrate how to uncap honeycomb, spin and bottle honey in the center’s commercial kitchen. Come prepared to get sticky -- everyone gets a taste!

A lunch menu featuring (what else?) honey will be prepared by Homeward Bound's culinary team between the morning and afternoon sessions for an extra charge.

Please reserve your spots for morning, lunch and afternoon sessions at http://bit.ly/FSCScooks. The sessions may be booked individually for $25 or both for $40.

All proceeds support shelter and job-training programs at Homeward Bound of Marin.

Founded in 1974, Homeward Bound is the county’s largest provider of shelter and services to homeless families and adults. Its hives, founded in April 2011, provide honey for resident meals, culinary job training and catered events in The Key Room. For more information, please visit www.hbofm.org or call 415-382-3363.

The Marin Bee Co. is a small company with a big mission: changing the world, one bee at a time! Services include beehive installation, educational workshops, adopt-a-hive programs, beekeeping supplies and free advice, all with the aim of repopulating honeybees and empowering others to do the same.
